Police catch up with outstanding warrants

During the week of April 4 to April 10, the Westman RCMP dealt with 52 police activities.

 

April 7 – A 28-year-old female was arrested in Virden as she had an outstanding warrant for her arrest. Subsequent to the arrest, she was found to have approximately $25 worth of stolen property in her possession. The property was returned to the rightful owner and she was released on a future Court date.

 

April 7 – RCMP were dispatched to a residence in Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated person causing a disturbance. Subsequent to a breach of peace arrest, an intoxicated male slammed his head against the fiberglass partition in the back of the police vehicle causing him to bleed profusely from the head. Officers pulled over to check on the intoxicated male, and to try stop him from further hurting himself. The intoxicated male proceeded to spit his blood at the officers, and attempted to kick the officers. Once controlled, he was transported to the Virden hospital for treatment for his cuts. He was charged for assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and mischief. He was remanded into custody.

 

April 9 – RCMP initiated a traffic stop near Reston. The vehicle driver showed signs of being intoxicated, and was subsequently read a demand to provide a sample of his breath into a roadside alcohol screening device. The result of the breath sample was a fail. The 23-year-old driver was issued an immediate roadside prohibition accompanied with a $700 fine. The vehicle was also impounded for 30 days.

 

April 9 – RCMP were dispatched to Sioux Valley for a report of an assault. Prior to police arrival, the suspect had departed the residence. The 43-year-old female victim received minor head injuries and was treated at the hospital. Attempts are currently being made to locate the suspect.

 

April 10 – RCMP initiated a traffic stop in Virden. A 39-year-old occupant of the vehicle was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Police located approximately nine grams of cocaine in his possession. He was released from police custody with a future Court date.

 

RCMP also responded to two traffic collisions and three false alarms; 11 traffic enforcement actions were undertaken during this reporting period.
