RCMP deal with fighters, dancers

Sioux Valley, Reston, Elkhorn and Virden get a mention in the Westman RCMP Report this week

During the week of Feb. 21 to 27 the Westman RCMP dealt with 77 police activities including the following dispatch locations:

Feb. 21 – Virden for a report of a male who wouldn’t leave the hotel room. Upon police attending, the male refused to leave and then initiated a physical confrontation with the responding officers. He earned himself two assault on police officer charges, and a charge of attempting to disarm a police officer. The officers sustained minor injuries during the physical confrontation. The accused was remanded into custody.

Feb. 23 – Hwy 1 at Virden for a report of a male dancing on the highway. Police attended and asked that he move off the highway for his own safety.

Feb. 24 – Elkhorn for a report of a domestic assault. Subsequent to investigation, an adult male and an adult female were both arrested for assault related offences. They were released on a future Court date on the condition that they abstain from contacting or communicating with each other.

Feb. 25 – Sioux Valley for a report of an intoxicated person being mean. While police were en route, the intoxicated person fell asleep and police were no longer needed.

Feb. 26 – a motor vehicle collision on Hwy 2 near Reston. Upon attending, police had reasonable grounds to believe the vehicle driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and read the breath demand. The driver was aggressive towards police and refused to provide a breath sample. He is facing a charge of impaired operation of a motor vehicle, a charge of refusing to provide a breath sample, and a charge of resisting arrest. He also received a licence suspension, and his vehicle was impounded for 60 days.

Feb. 26 – Sioux Valley for a report of a missing person.  She was found safe.

RCMP also responded to 17 traffic collisions, and 21 other traffic-related calls. Our detachment services assistants also answered dozens of phone calls pertaining to highway closures and highway conditions. 14 traffic enforcement actions were undertaken during this reporting period. Of those enforcement actions, Cst. Jones issued 7 tickets and 3 warnings on the 23rd.
