Danger at a rail crossing

The week of May 8 to 14, Westman Area Detachment responded to 60 calls for service; half of those calls were for traffic related offences including speeding and non-moving traffic violations (registration and licensing issues).

On May 12, CP Rail called in a dangerous driving incident at an unmarked rail crossing in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth, involving a tanker truck (possibly propane or anhydrous ammonia). An investigation is ongoing.

An impaired driver was apprehended on May 14, in Sioux Valley, with a blood alcohol reading nearly three times the legal limit. The vehicle was towed, the driver was held overnight and charged with impaired driving, over the legal limit of .08 alcohol in his blood and released for a court appearance on those charges.

RCMP received a request from Winnipeg police to locate individual they believed was headed toward Virden. The person had an outstanding warrant for arrest and was charged with assault and uttering threats. On Saturday, May 13, the vehicle was spotted near the RCMP Detachment in Virden, on Thomas Drive. The male passenger was arrested and remanded into custody for a court appearance.

In response to a domestic assault complaint at Sioux Valley, a male was located, charged and released for a court date.

On the weekend there was an utter threats complaint in Sioux Valley; the subject of complaint was not located. With multiple warrants for his arrest, Virden RCMP requests the public’s help to locate 21-year-old Presley Blacksmith.

Responding to a request for help with a case of a mental health related drug overdose, RCMP located the individual who was taken to Virden hospital, and was held overnight for observation. This was a medical concern.

A black and red BMX bicycle, with white tires was reported stolen from Virden Junior High on May 11. The investigation continues.
