Corporal Ed Riglin Reported 37 calls for service between June 2 and June 8, 18 of which were charges under the Highway Traffic Act.

Those range anywhere from being on a cell phone to speeding. The highest charged offenders are as follows: a driver was caught driving 96km/h in a 60km/h zone, and was fined with $827. Another offender was a motorcyclist caught going 160km/h in a 100km/h zone fined with $835 and a careless driving charge. Now the driver must appear in court for this offense. A third major offense involved a car going 146km/h in a new 110km/h zone, and they were charged with $521.

There were also false alarm calls at two Virden residences.

June 4
•Report of an impaired driver in Oak Lake, description was given but the suspect was not able to be found.

June 5
•A phone call fraud complaint was made; the caller claimed to be the police telling them their grandson was detained and the bail was $1,300. Thankfully no money was transferred and the
complainant contacted police immediately. The call info was given to Phonebusters in Ontario to help stop these kinds of scams.

June 6
•Report of an impaired driver in Kenton. Description of the suspect was given, but was not located.
•A suspicious persons report was made for a man who was sleeping in a rest stop washroom. Subject was a hitch hiker that didn’t want to sleep out in the mosquitoes, so no charges were laid.

June 8
•A complaint was made of a disturbance at a residence in Virden. Nothing physical ensued as the argument was purely vocal; the situation was diffused by the police.

Also a reminder to citizens, if you are contacted by someone who is in need of money or is trying to get money from you, take the time to think; it might be a scam. Never pay anything over the phone to some one you are not sure about.

If you are unsure about it, hang up and contact the caller yourself to get the real information on the situation.
