Family and friends are so happy to be able to visit, this Christmas season.

Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

"From home to home, and heart to heart, from one place to another,

The warmth and joy of Christmas, Brings us closer to each other."  - Emily Matthews

I want to mention something I have been thinking about. Dec. 6 was the second Sunday in Advent. What is Advent? It is a four-week period where people can prepare for Christmas. The tradition for many is to light a candle for each week of Advent. The second candle is purple and symbolizes faith. I did not grow up knowing these things, maybe there are others who wonder about it. Just saying.

Christmas is on my mind because my children Troy and Paulina Primeau were here this week to celebrate our family Christmas. Which we did at my son Peter and Cindy's place at Cromer. We had a wonderful time together.

Now this is Evergreen news:

Paulina met with a good friend, Susie Downing of Virden whom she had not seen in some years. But Susie's mother Emmi Schneider moved into Evergreen recently, so these two friends arranged to meet at my place. What a blast they had laughing, reminiscing and catching up on each other's lives. It was a joy to watch them. Dr. Seuss says, "Christmas will always be, as long as we stand heart to heart." I could see the meaning of this right here in my suite, while the rest of the gang that were here watched the football game.

It was marked on our Evergreen calendar, and it happened, Covid booster shots were given on Thursday, Dec. 2. I have not heard any complaining so it must have gone well for the residents.

Vern and Margaret Rollo, and Gordy and Claudia Grant were out at the Central for a friendship meal on Tuesday, Nov. 29, It was Margaret's misfortune to slip on the ice and fall on the icy street, and as a result had to have stitches on her head at the hospital. Two other residents fell on the icy street but they are okay.

Since the Canada/American border has opened, Rose Higheagle's daughter Kim was able to come from North Dakota to visit her mother. Rose had not seen her daughter in two years. They had a few days together.

James, one of the Healthcare workers here, found a frozen cell phone outside. He brought it in and it happened to belong to Chris Leach who had been clearing snow on the sidewalk. Chris, we congratulate you for winning the Citizen of the Year award. He received a certificate and a special plaque which he proudly showed us. He thanked the residents for supporting him. You deserved this honor, Chris.

A few notes of appreciation are in order. Verna Pennycook gave me a White Fruit cake recipe and I will try it. Much appreciated, Verna. Cecile Fisher of Elkhorn sent me an idea about how to keep my hearing aids safe wearing a mask. She sent me a mask mate and just to let you know Cecile, it works! Thank you for your encouragement.

Miniota By Linda Clark

The Arrow River and Miniota Community sends get well wishes to Cory Gardham who is a patient in the Brandon Hospital. Our thoughts are with you Cory for good healing.

The Miniota United Church congregation recently held a congregational meeting and it was decided they would not hold a Christmas Eve service again this year. Regular Sunday worship continues at both our churches. The Anglican and United Churches sponsor the Memory Tree. Bulbs are available at Fusion Credit Union and the names will be read at the morning church service on Dec. 19.

Our community is all decorated for Christmas. We eagerly await the decisions of our judges for the Prairie View Small Town Christmas Light Up Contest. As well, take a drive out into the country to see the light displays on many farms and acreages. Simply beautiful! Well worth your drive to see the displays. Puts one in the spirit!

Be sure to email or phone your Christmas news to your news reporter.

This thought for the Christmas season: “Christmas is forever, not just one day, for loving, sharing, giving are not to be put away like bells and lights and tinsel, in some box upon a shelf.  The good you do for others is the good you do for yourself.”  -Anonymous
