Russell RCMP respond to fatal two-vehicle collision

A young woman from Waywayseecappo First Nation has died in a vehicle collision.

On Aug. 21, at approximately 10:45 pm, Russell RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 45 at the intersection with Road 151 W, located three kilometres east of Angusville. The preliminary investigation has discovered that a westbound vehicle, driven by a 24-year-old male from Long Plain First Nation, attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Road 151 W when it was struck by an eastbound pickup truck, being driven by a 54-year-old male from the RM of Mossey River. The 24-year-old male driver, who suffered non-life threatening injuries, was taken to hospital. A 22-year-old female passenger, from Waywayseecappo First Nation, was pronounced deceased on scene. The male driver and female passenger of the pickup truck suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the collision. A RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist and the RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team are assisting with the ongoing investigation.
