Sioux Valley man, 20, arrested for murder

For the week of Nov. 14 to Nov. 20, the Westman RCMP dealt with a homicide among 57 other police occurrences.

Nov. 16 – RCMP received a call that a bottle of Jack Daniels was stolen from a local business in Elkhorn. A suspect has been identified; the investigation is ongoing.

Nov. 17 – RCMP received a call that a train struck a person near Oak Lake. Upon arrival, a deceased male was located. RCMP remained on scene until the investigation was taken over by the CP Police.

Nov. 18 – RCMP received a call of an attempted break in at the Reston Theatre. It is believed that the attempted break in occurred overnight. The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information pertaining to this crime is encouraged to contact the Virden RCMP. A tip can also be submitted anonymously through Crime Stoppers.

Nov. 19 – RCMP were conducting routine patrols in Reston and initiated a roadside stop. A breath sample was obtained from the vehicle driver which resulted in a “WARN”. The vehicle was subsequently impounded for three days. The vehicle driver also received a $400 fine.

Nov. 19 – RCMP received a call of a disturbance at a residence in Sioux Valley. Upon attending, a 30-year-old female was located with serious injuries. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 20-year-old male from Sioux Valley was arrested. He was charged with first-degree murder and remains in custody.

Nov. 20 – RCMP received a call of a single vehicle collision in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. When police attended, the vehicle was determined to be stolen. A quantity of non-prescription drugs was located inside the vehicle. Investigation is ongoing.

Westman RCMP also responded to the following:

  • Four False 911 calls
  • Three vehicle thefts
  • Three Traffic collisions
  • Two calls under the Mental Health Act
  • Two suspicious person calls
  • Four false alarm calls

Now that sub-zero temperatures have arrived, we have seen an increase in vehicle thefts. Please keep in mind that a large majority of vehicle thefts occur when keys are left in the ignition, unattended.
