Virden RCMP will be closing the intersection at PTH #259 and #1 at approx. 930 AM today to allow a convoy through on its way to Ottawa. Westman RCMP is in contact with the organizers of this event and they have provided that estimated time of arrival.
Given the relative icy conditions at the intersection and the volume of traffic involved, the decision has been made to close the controlled intersection at the lights, allowing the convoy to proceed on its mission to Ottawa in a safe and timely manner with the fewest question marks for safety.
Westman RCMP is asking the people of Virden and surrounding areas to be aware of this and to plan accordingly, avoiding the intersection if possible.
There are over 200 trucks involved and it’s estimated to take 20 minutes for the trucks to get through.
