UPDATE - Have you seen Matthew Barker?

 Saskatchewan and Manitoba RCMP issued an appeal for assistance from the public. An arrest has been made.

Mathew Barker has been arrested. He was the subject of a public alert, wanted on warrants from the Nipawin RCMP, Tisdale RCMP, Hudson Bay RCMP and Swan River RCMP.

Initially, his charges included dangerous operation of a conveyance, failure to stop while being pursued by a police officer and trafficking stolen property.

Barker was considered armed and dangerous. The public was warned not to approach him but to call 911.

As a result of extensive investigation and collaboration among multiple units and RCMP detachments, Matthew Barker was arrested without incident at a business in Winnipeg, Manitoba around 8:30 a.m. on May 6.

There were warrants issued for Barker’s arrest out of multiple RCMP Detachment areas in Saskatchewan and also Manitoba.

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Enforcement Response Team-WEST was assisted in this overall investigation by Tisdale, Nipawin, Hudson Bay and Rose Valley RCMP Detachments, Manitoba RCMP Crime Reduction Enforcement Support Team and Emergency Response Team and Saskatchewan conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch.

Firearms, drugs confiscated during arrest

As a result of Barker’s arrest at a Winnipeg location on May 6, officers located approximately 27 grams of methamphetamine in his possession along with a weapon and drug-related paraphernalia.

Subsequent to his arrest, officers conducted a search of a hotel room used by Barker and located several loaded handguns.

Matthew Barker was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled May 9, 2022, in Winnipeg on the following charges;

·        Unsafe Storage of a Firearm x2

·        Possession of a Restricted Firearm without License / Registration x2

·        Possession of a Firearm when knowing Possession Unauthorized x2

·        Carrying Concealed Weapon

·        Possession of a Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine)

·        Fail to Comply with Release Order Condition X5

RCMP continue to investigate.
