Virden and area residents gathered in the beautifully decorated Victoria Park to celebrate Canada’s Birthday. The day was full of excitement and thankfully Mother Nature cooperated and gave Virden wonderful weather to enjoy the festivities in the park.

The day started off with a barbecue, to fill everyone up before the big Show and Shine Classic Auto parade, which made its way through the streets of Virden for all to enjoy, followed by the old classic cars, and other floats that were throwing candy for all.

After the parade, most people made their way back to the park to enjoy local entertainment and the free children’s activities.

During the afternoon cake was handed out for everyone to enjoy.

The official ceremonies started at 6:00p.m. with the cutting of the ceremonial Canada Day cake, speeches, the raising of the Canadian Flag, and the beautiful singing of O’Canada.

After the opening ceremonies, there was a free concert in the park; J4K (Just For Kicks) featuring, Barry Cullen.

Canada Day festivities came to a close with the annual fireworks that were provided by the Town of Virden.

With another successful Canada Day is in the books. Virden will be gearing up for Canada’s 150 next year.
