It was just a few minutes past noon, a snowy day on Highway One when two transport trucks had an accident near Elkhorn.
On March 4, at approximately 12:10 pm, Virden RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway, near Provincial Road 256, in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. The collision involved two semi-trucks with trailers.
The initial investigation has determined that a semi-truck (vehicle 1) was travelling east on the Trans Canada when it rear-ended another semi-truck (vehicle 2), going in the same direction.
The driver of vehicle 1, a 23-year-old man from Winnipeg, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.
The passenger a 28-year-old man from Winnipeg, had minor injuries and was treated at scene.
The 36-year-old driver of vehicle 2, the vehicle that was rear-ended, was not injured. He was also from Winnipeg.
It was a snowy day and it's reported that road conditions appear to be a factor in the collision. However, Virden RCMP continue to investigate.
