On Nov.19, 2022, at 6:25 pm, officers from Virden RCMP received a report of a disturbance at a residence located on the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation.
Officers, along with EMS, attended and located a 30-year-old female with serious injuries who was pronounced deceased on scene.
A 20-year-old male, from Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation, was arrested on scene and remains in police custody.
On November 20, 2022, RCMP charged the 20-year-old male, Ernie Blacksmith, with First Degree Murder in relation to this homicide. He was remanded into custody for a court appearance scheduled for Nov. 21, 2022, in Brandon.
Virden RCMP, along with RCMP Major Crime Services and Forensic Identification Services, continue to investigate.
