We're enjoying a Christmas meal and other festivities of the Season

YOUR COMMUNITY poetically expresses Christmas sentiment: "The best present in the world Is simply one of your hugs!"

Calls and letters mark the Christmas Season.

Miniota By Linda Clark

Miniota Municipal Services for Seniors held their annual Christmas supper on Dec. 11 at the Miniota Hall.  Entertainment was provided by the Hamiota Orchestra, followed by a delicious turkey supper catered by Little Kitchen on the Prairie.

The Memorial Tree has been lit in the Memory Garden and the names will be read on Sunday, Dec. 19th at both the Miniota Anglican and United Churches.

Excitement is mounting in our community with a Christmas parade to be held on Friday, Dec. 17th. Of course we are anticipating a visit from Santa.

“The best Christmas gifts are not material things, but gifts of listening, of showing kindness, of remembering, of visiting, of forgiving, and of giving time.”

Princess Lodge By Janice Simpson

Princess Lodge is having their Christmas supper on Monday night, Dec.13. It will be a catered supper. We can finally sit together in the common room.

All down the hallways you can see wreaths and ornaments to celebrate Christmas. Dianne has set up a beautiful, decorated Christmas tree in the common room.

Janice was over at Wayne’s place to watch the Grey Cup, cheering on Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

The bingo is going well with nine or ten residents. It helps fill in Thursday nights.

Joyce shows us a movie on Saturday nights, thank you Joyce.

I love the hockey, so I go to the Oil Caps games. They are doing very well.

In case I don’t have news next week, I want to wish all the residents and the people who read the paper, a Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.

Kenton By Karen Anderson

Due to the extreme cold and the icy sidewalks and streets, walking in the Kenton Memorial Hall started on Dec. 9. It will continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-12 noon. Please use the Legion Clubroom to enter, then read the rules and sign in. There is no charge but donations will be appreciated.

I hope that everyone has an enjoyable holiday season.

Here's a shopping guide for you:

The Best Present

"The best present in the world, Can't be bought in the Mall,

The best present in the world, Isn't a bike or a ball,

The best present in the world, Can't be caught like some bugs,

The best present in the world Is simply one of your hugs!" - Author Unknown

The Blue Bombers did it again! This is not exactly Evergreen news, but I was by myself and watched the Grey Cup game on Sunday, Dec. 12, as many of the residents here did. Not everyone rooted for Winnipeg.

We had a Tea last week for Chris Leach, with his favorite Black Forest Cake, to honour him for winning the Citizen of the Year award. We watched the video of the actual presentation, by special request.

Our December birthdays are: Joyce Braybrook, John Doone, Verna Pennycook, Carol Gabrielle and Eileen Price. The December birthstone is turquoise. Turquoise is a symbol of good fortune and success. It is said to represent a host of positive personality traits including happiness, honesty and spirituality. Happy Birthday to all having a birthday in December.

On Thursday, Dec. 16 we will be served our free turkey Christmas dinner by caterers. The Tenant Association is donating it to all residents here at Evergreen. Thank you.

Our deepest condolences and prayers go to Harold and Linda Spring at the sad, unexpected passing of their daughter of Rivers, Man.

We are having our entire fire alarm system replaced at Evergreen. The work began Monday, Dec, 13, and is expected to be done in February of next year.

I love the Christmas lights and decorations we have seen popping up all over Virden. It kind of takes away the negativity and boredom of the pandemic.

Let's take in all the Christmas activities and Candlelight services we can. We'll feel the joy of the Season if we do.
