Reston born Travis Bloomer took home two awards and a second place with his 1966 Chevrolet C/10 Fleetside Shortbed in Piston Ring’s World of Wheels. The show took place in the Winnipeg Convention Centre, Mar. 24-26.
Bloomer grew up in Reston and now lives and works in Dauphin.
Rick and Lorelei Bloomer are very proud of their son’s determination and careful work to restore the old truck.
Lorelei says, “He did it all himself, down to the sanding and paint job.”
Bloomer’s wife Terry stated she loved the people’s reaction when they found out he doesn’t work in the (auto body) industry, it’s only a hobby.
She said, “It has taken nine years, but he knew what he wanted, and had the patience to achieve it.”
The awards include, Outstanding Engine – Truck; Outstanding Interior – Truck; and Semi Pickup Second Place.
His mother says Travis has done a lot of things, including work as a pharmacist assistant and driving a track hoe on pipeline work. However antique restoration is one of his loves and she says, “He seems to have a knack for it.”
This interest was nurtured, however; his family first took him to a World of Wheels show when he was quite young.
