Welcome to Ted Morton who has moved from his farm home and taken up residence at Parkissimo Lodge. We hope you enjoy urban living Ted. Ted’s son Jason and his wife Jenni of Virden have moved to the farm. Welcome to our area Jason and Jenni.

A community wedding gift of money has been sent to Crystal Chartier and her husband Justin Black upon the occasion of their marriage at Coronation AB. Congratulations Justin and Crystal from your Miniota friends.

Jim and Lin Young travelled to Wakefield, Que. to visit with their family, Steven and Amber, Ashby and Violet Young. They report beautiful weather and a great visit.

We wish all our young people a great evening this Sunday for a fun Halloween outing. Be safe.

Thinking of all those Jack’O Lanterns which will be lit this Sunday, and the candles which will be lit during the Advent and Christmas season which will be upon us before we know it, brought this quote to mind:

“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of a candle will not be shortened.  Happiness never decreases by being shared.”

Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

October

Autumn leaves of red and gold that crunch beneath your feet,

Pumpkins on front porches, candy corn and trick or treat.

Tart and tangy cider, apples ripened on the trees,

A hint of winter coming on the chilly autumn breeze. - Author unknown

I love October and I love poetry. I wanted to write a short poem about autumn using these phrases: “Animals hibernate, Birds migrate, People congregate.” I didn't get down to it so maybe you'd like to try it.

The snow forecast for Sunday did not happen, but we had -8 one morning.

Gardens are done, of course. My grandson popped in one morning and my neighbour suggested to him, why don't you clean out your grandma’s garden? And he did! Thank you, neighbour. Thank you, Steven.

I heard something in the Common Room that I had not heard before. The question was what did people carve before they carved pumpkins for Halloween? I googled the question and sure enough it was turnips!

Which brings me to a kind of sad announcement: Because of covid we will not be able to have trick or treaters come to Evergreen this Halloween. We have enjoyed having over a hundred come in the years past. We hope this will not keep grandchildren from coming to grandparents for treats this day.

Donna Bajus came to visit Eileen Price last Friday.

On Thursday, Divyesh of Virden Drugs came to do the flu shots for the Evergreen residents. We appreciate that we can stay right at home for this annual event. Thank you Divyesh. The coming week we can say, “Hello November!” I am wishing you all peace, love, and happiness for this new month.

Quote for the Day: "October is crisp days and cool nights, a time to curl up around the dancing flames and sink into a good book."  - John Sinor
