A summer day in Miniota's playground

Evergreen Place By Helen Martens

In Summer
Pour on lotion, Rub it in,
Perfect for my summer skin.
On the bike or in the pool,
A sip of water keeps me cool.
Shades are on, Flip-Flops too,
In summer there's so much to do.
 - Liane Mahoney
Hello, friends out there. Today it is 34 degrees. Is it finally hot enough to complain how hot it is? I think so. But we can beat the heat with a nice, cool drink.
The above quote mentions flip-flops. I had forgotten about them till I was walking down the hall one day and I heard these footsteps behind me. The old familiar sound of flip-flops! I heard someone say, “Some of the best memories are made in flip-flops.”
Rose Higheagle's daughter Kim Arneson of Westhope, North Dakota, visited her mom for four days. This was a very special time for Rose. Rose was hoping to be able to join in on National Indigenous People Day, to watch the pow-wow competitions.
Paul Pennycook picked up his friend Mike here at Evergreen on Saturday, June 18. They went to the Virden Airport for a pancake breakfast, among other things.
Harold and Lynda Spring's great grandson plays ball on a Killarney Ball team. They watched his team play a Virden team here this weekend.
Anne Lodder spent three days visiting family at Shoal Lake this past weekend. She went to the McConnell 4-H Beef Club Achievement at the Strathclair arena on Monday, June 13. She had three grandchildren showing the beef they raised.
My sister Katherine Klassen came from Parker, Colorado (near Denver) to visit her two daughters, Becki and Martha, and their families at Kola. Katherine is my only sibling. It was very good to have Sunday, June 12, a day we could spend together. During the six days she was in Manitoba, we also had two meals together, at Lawrence and Becki Penner's and at Boston Pizza.
Eileen Price had been waiting for good weather, so she could visit her son at Clear Lake. She left on Thursday and I trust they are having a good visit.
Quote for the Day: "Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time." - John Lubbock

Our community was saddened to hear of the death of Kalina Green at Carberry. Kalina taught in our Miniota school a few years ago and has remained a friend to fellow staff members and her students. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this sad time.
Many parents and grandparents attended the Gr. 5-8 Track and Field at Shoal Lake last Thursday to cheer on our Miniota students.
