About 160 people came out to enjoy Mother’s Day brunch at TOGP on Sunday, a fundraiser for Virden & Area Community Daycare. Organizer Fran Lansing says the numbers were slightly up from last year’s event.

It was one of those “could-have-been-much-worse” grass fires in Elkhorn May 17. It broke out around 9:30 Thursday morning in the area behind the museum and 3DI, but the gusty winds pushed it away from the buildings and towards the railway tracks.

Virden Junior High students cleaned up parts of Virden on Tuesday, May 8. They were on a mission to clean up this corner of the globe as an Earth Day initiative.

In Virden's sports ground, students planted poplar trees around the south edge of the old racetrack at ball diamond #6.
