The Virden Oilers have completed another regular season; this one is definitely one for the books.

The regular season, “went very well.” Player- manager Des Koop explained. The team went an impressive 9-4 and won the North Division Pennant.

The Oilers had impressive stats this year leading the Southwest Baseball League with 100 runs scored in 13 games and only gave up 52.

The Oilers are in the midst of playoffs; winning their first round against the Elkhorn Expos. Elkhorn put up a good run, but the Oilers would take them in two games; first game, 10-1 and the second game, 6-3. In the finals the Oilers are now going up to bat against the Oak River Dodgers for the North Division title.

The winner of this match up will take on the South Division Champions to determine the league champions.

Koop said, “So far the season has gone well. We set a goal of making it to provincials and achieved that goal by winning the North Division Pennant.” The Oilers haven’t been to provincials since 2005 when they took home a silver medal. Provincials will take place in Wawanessa, August 5,6, and 7.
