The Southwest Cougars came into December with a four-game winning streak. The Pembina Valley Hawks and Winnipeg Thrashers of the Midget AAA league put an end to the streak, each with 3-2 wins in Souris.

Every year during the Christmas season, the Virden Velocity Synchronized Skating teams pick a local charity to support. This year they collected non-perishable food items for the Virden and Area Food Cupboard.

Virden, Elkhorn and Hartney skaters dominate the contingent of Westman figure skaters selected to participate in the 2018 Manitoba Winter Games in Thompson.
