Drew Simpson, 25, of Virden won second place in his first powerlifting competition. The Westman Strength Classic was held Apr. 22 at CFB Shilo. Simpson won second in the Men’s Open 120kg Plus category.

Presentations were made to our two lucky winners of the Sunrise Credit Union Shoot Out to Win.

This past weekend was annual Source For Sports AAA Hockey Challenge in Brandon. This is big tournament that brings team from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and North Dakota.

Club West held a 15-and-under volleyball tournament on Apr. 22 – 23. Games took place at the Virden Junior High and Virden Collegiate Institute throughout both days. Seventeen teams participated in the tournament.

The Oil Caps Training Camp was held from Apr. 21 – 23 at the Tundra Oil & Gas Place arena. Head scout, Chad Leslie, and his scouting staff assembled 52, (2002 born) Bantam players from all over Manitoba to attend the training camp.

The Elkhorn duo of Josh Martin and Layne Toder helped propel the Portage Terriers to a third straight Manitoba Junior Hockey League championship.

Elkhorn’s Taylor Sanheim is looking to extend his junior hockey career for as long as he can. The son of Kent and Shelly Sanheim is in his fourth and final season. His team – the Penticton Vees - is hosting the Western Canada Cup.

South West Judo Club held their year-end Grading and Photo Night at Mary Montgomery School in the evening of Apr. 11. Parents along with 28 students attended the event.

Melody Kroeker, from Kenton and a brown belt SW Judo student, will be participating in a national competition this May in Calgary, AB. Kroeker will partake in Senior Women’s, and 21 and Under categories.
