A young woman is rescued from northern river

A young woman was rescued from the cold Burntwood River in northern Manitoba on Tuesday, Oct. 26.

A call at approximately 6:25 pm to the Thompson RCMP reported there was a person in the river. She was reported as in distress in the Burntwood River, close to the Miles Hart Bridge in Thompson, Manitoba. Officers responded immediately and could hear her in the water.

Thompson RCMP along with the city’s Fire and Emergency Services deployed boats in the water and were able to locate and rescue the 17-year-old as she struggled to keep afloat.

By the time she was located and rescued it is believed she spent approximately 15 minutes in the frigid river.

RCMP transported the female to shore, where she was taken to local hospital for treatment.
