In the RM of St. Andrews, this driver of this motorcycle was clocked going faster than the speed limit, by about 100 km/hr.

A motorcyclist drew attention to himself when he pulled away from the group. His high-speed drive yielded a heavy fine, one among several last weekend.

On April 24 at approximately 6:30 p.m., in the RM of St. Andrews, Selkirk RCMP Traffic Services were observing a large group of motorcycles travelling at a high rate of speed, when one of the motorcycles started to pull away from the group. Radar readings as high as at 178 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone were obtained. The motorcycle was stopped and the driver, a 50-year-old Winnipeg man, was charged for speeding (a $1333 fine) and Driving Dangerously (a $672 fine).  He was also issued a Serious Offence Notice for a licence review with MPI.

Approximately an hour later, the same officer clocked a vehicle going 150km/h in the same 80km/h zone. The driver, a 17-year-old female from St. Andrews was charged with speeding and fined $966.  She was also issued a Serious Offence Notice for a license review with MPI.

Drivers operating at dangerous speeds have also been charged in other areas throughout the province at speeds 60 kms over the speed limit.

Also on April 24, Portage la Prairie RCMP were patrolling Highway 1, west of Portage la Prairie at approximately 8:10 p.m. when officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. Radar readings as high as 177km/h in the posted 110km/h speed zone were obtained. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, a 28-year-old male, stated he was tired and in a rush to get to a store to pick up dog food and get home. Fined $927 and issued a Serious Offence Notice for a licence review.

Even during the pandemic, motorists are reminded that police continue to watch for dangerous and reckless driving on the province's roadways.
