A little boy and a doge wandered off in a remote area of Manitoba. His cries brought help.

On August 22, at 5:40 p.m., Moose Lake RCMP received a report of a missing 2-year-old boy from Crossing Bay, which is located approximately 35 kilometres north of Moose Lake.

The child had wandered off with the family dog when it was believed that the child was with another member of the family. Two hours had passed before the family learned that the child was in fact missing.

Officers from Moose Lake, including our Police Dog Services unit, joined a group from the community and began to search for the child. The RCMP’s Search and Rescue team along with a helicopter from Manitoba Conservation were also deployed and on their way.

At 7:15 pm, after receiving a tip from an 8-year-old who believed he had heard a child crying in the distance, officers on ATV located the child and the family dog on a trail approximately 1.5 kilometres south of the community.

The child was taken to the Moose Lake Nursing Station for a check but was otherwise unharmed.
