Archery Manitoba congratulates provincial team member Austin Taylor for winning the U.S. National Indoor Collegiate Championship in March.

The tournament gathered collegiate scores from across the U.S., shot at various local tournaments due to COVID-19 restrictions between Jan. 1 and March 31, 2021. Taylor’s score of 593 out of 600 beat No. 2 Ethan Merrill of Texas A&M (592 points), and No. 3 Dillon Thompson of Wabash Valley College in Illinois (590 points).

Taylor’s winning score was shot at the Mid-South Conference Championship in Madisonville, Ky., Jan. 29-31. After seeding first at that tournament, he went undefeated through match play rounds to take that title as well. His score of 150 in the semi-final match — a perfect score — is a new Canadian match-play record.

Taylor is a sophomore at Lindsey Wilson College, where he is studying business administration and is a member of the Blue Raiders archery team. He now turns his attention to the U.S. National Outdoor Regional Championships April 7-9, with hopes of earning a berth at the U.S. National Outdoor Championship May 20-23 in Richmond, Va.
