Portage la Prairie RCMP execute warrants, arrest eight

Several police forces were involved in removing dangerous drugs from circulation on the streets and a number of people were charged, including a 16-year-old.

 

 On February 26, 2021, at approximately 6:00 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP, along with the RCMP Emergency Response Team, West District Containment Team, and Brandon and Portage RCMP Police Dog Services, executed three separate Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants simultaneously on three residences in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.

At the first residence on 1st Street NW, police seized a firearm, a pellet gun, ammunition, an undisclosed amount of Canadian currency, cannabis, a substance believed to be fentanyl/carfentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.

At the second residence on 5th Avenue, police seized a firearm, ammunition, and methamphetamine.

At the third residence on 5th Street NE, police seized methamphetamine, several firearms, a vehicle, and a large number of prescription drugs that appear to be from the recent break and enter at a pharmacy in Portage on February 17, 2021.

In total, RCMP officers seized more than a kilogram of methamphetamine, three ounces of cocaine, a small amount of what appears to be fentanyl/carfentanyl, Canadian currency, four firearms, a pellet gun, and a large amount of prescription drugs.

Jeremy Whincup, 50, and Kayla Whitford, 31, from Portage, were arrested and charged with:

·         Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x4 (methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, hydromorphone)

·         Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5000

·         Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm

·         Unauthorized Possession of Prohibited Device

·         Store Firearm Improperly

·         Possession of Stolen Property over $5000

 

Additionally, Whincup is charged with Possess Firearm While Prohibited x3. Whitford is also charged with Fail to Comply with Release Order x2. Both individuals remain in custody.

Five additional adults, a 24-year-old male, 26-year-old male, 27-year-old female, 35-year-old female, and 37-year-old male, were arrested, charged, and released for a court date. A 16-year-old female was also arrested, charged, and released for a court date.

The investigation continues.
