Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a two-vehicle collision on the TransCanada Hwy on April 8 that resulted in an arrest, but no serious injuries.

The accident occurred Thursday, around 1:30 in the afternoon near the Portage la Prairie bypass on the east side of the city.

Witnesses advise that the driver of a black vehicle was driving at high rates of speed and was passing vehicles on a double solid line. The driver was exiting the city of Portage la Prairie eastbound onto Highway 1, when she failed to yield to traffic and collided with a semi trailer. Her vehicle spun out into the ditch, and the driver fled the scene on foot. The vehicle involved was confirmed to be stolen.

Shortly after, officers located the female driver walking east on Highway 1. She was arrested without incident.

The same driver was involved in another collision earlier in the day, where she failed to stop and fled the scene.

Rebecca Contois, 23, has been charged with Operation of a Conveyance While Impaired by Drugs, Refusal to Comply with a Drug Demand, Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance, Failure to Remain at the Scene of an Accident x2 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime. She was treated on scene and then remanded into custody.

Portage la Prairie RCMP continue to investigate.
