Suspect arrested in double homicide south of Winnipeg

RCMP responded to a 911 call in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 25. It was approximately 1:15 a.m. when St Pierre-Jolys police were dispatched to a disturbance call in the RM of Tache.

In a Winnipeg Free Press report: "Mounties from the St. Pierre-Jolys detachment raced to the property at 28147 River Road in the Rural Municipality of Taché, southeast of Winnipeg."

Initially the call was determined to be a break and enter in progress, at the residence on River Road."

Upon arrival, officers located a 77-year-old man and a 73-year-old woman in the home. Both were pronounced deceased on scene.

While officers were at the residence, a report was received of a suspicious male. Officers immediately conducted a patrol and located and arrested an adult male on foot, on Highway 59.

A stolen vehicle believed to be linked to the male was located one kilometre away at the intersection of Highway 59 and Provincial Trunk Highway 210. The vehicle was seized by police.

On March 25, Karlton Dean Reimer, 27, of Steinbach, was charged with two counts of Second-Degree Murder and was remanded into custody. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday, March 26.

The investigation is ongoing however at this time there is no known connection between the accused and the victims.

While there is no concern for public safety at this time, officers are conducting door-to-door neighbourhood checks to gather information and ensure the wellbeing of residents.

St Pierre-Jolys RCMP along with Major Crime Services (MCS), Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and additional support units continue to investigate.
