TORONTO — Meridian Credit Union Ltd. says Jay-Ann Gilfoy has been named as its new president and chief executive, effective Jan. 3.

Gilfoy joins the Ontario credit union after serving as chief executive of Vancity Community Investment Bank, a subsidiary of B.C.-based Vancouver City Savings Credit Union.

Meridian is Ontario's largest credit union with 380,000 members and $27.6 billion in assets under management.

Meridian chair Karen Farbridge says Gilfoy will help the credit union navigate the complexities of a post-pandemic world that is challenging the financial services sector.

Bill Maurin stepped down from the CEO job at Meridian in May after seven years in the role and 18 years with the organization.

Until Gilfoy officially assumes her new role in January, Gary Genik is expected to remain in place as interim president and CEO at Meridian.
