Virden schools participate in Learn to Read Month. In Virden's Goulter School (K-Gr. 4) the gymnasium was decorated with art. Principal Amy Schiltroth welcomed families and friends who came to read with the students on Friday afternoon, Feb.23. Reading took place throughout the gymnasium, school rooms and hallways.
“Reading opens the door to lifelong learning,” said Manitoba Education Minister Nancy Allan . “Once a child becomes a reader, his or her life is vastly enriched."
The reading movement extends far beyond Manitoba. Internationally a number of countries promote some version of Love to Read or Learn to Read initiatives. It's a great time to re-establish reading time with the children in our lives.
