Drop the tailgate. Let’s have a party – and a family friendly barbecue. That’s what Scott King and the Virden Indoor Rodeo & Wild West Daze committee has planned for Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a time to get the community out… everybody can have some fun and then watch the rodeo,” says King.

New this year, the Tailgate Party on Aug. 18 will be held on the recreation grounds near the curling rink.

After eating a pancake breakfast Saturday morning and watching the Rodeo Parade in town, the Tail Gate Party is the place to get an affordable meal, let the kids play and take in some live music.

Manitoba beef is on the menu, along with salads provided by Gopher Creek Coffee Company. There’s a full bar as well.

Ghost Town Hall is playing on the flatdeck-stage. This Brandon band bills itself as original traditional, country and western music, with an authentic ‘barn dance’ flavour. But their music swings wide to take in classic country, R&B and rock.

The mini kids’ carnival will have a half-dozen fun features including a Plinko game, a target game, a mechanical bull, sand pile and more, all held on the grass between the round white heritage building and the curling rink.

The music and kids’ games are free to enjoy. There will be seating available inside and outside the curling rink.
