7-Eleven is opening a store in Virden. It will be located at the Petro Canada gas station and convenience store on the TransCanada Highway frontage road.

On Thursday, the store and gas pumps were closed for inventory. The adjoining Subway restaurant continued open for business.

The manager of the current outlet was on site for inventory and said they only expected to be closed for a day before the new owners take over. It was unknown at press time when the 7-Eleven will open for business.

The 7-Eleven webpage says the Virden store will carry Slurpees and Big Gulps plus hot items like pizza, crispy chicken, breakfast foods and a coffee bar. Like all 7-Elevens, it will be open 24/7/365.

7-Eleven is a US-based chain of convenience stores with 68,236 stores in 17 countries. Winnipeg is known for having the most Slurpee fans in the world, with 1.5 million of the drinks sold.
