Virden Animal Hospital and its long-time client Gerry Gatey recently delivered 40 hampers for pets to Virden Christmas Cheer, an annual tradition that helps ensure pets don’t go hungry over the holidays.

The delivery means 37 dogs and 43 cats (plus some barn cats) will get food and toys for Christmas like their human families.

The clinic also put together hampers for 82 more dogs and cats served by Souris Christmas Cheer.

Pet Pictures for Brandi

The vet clinic invited the public to bring their animals to Pet Pictures with Santa on Dec. 1. The fundraiser supports a different cause each year.

This year, $1,500 was raised for Brandi Coulter, a teenager with ties to Virden who’s in hospital in Edmonton waiting for a donor heart.

Dr. Carla Loewen of Virden Animal Hospital says the money “ensured that her family got to fly there to spend her 18th birthday with her on Dec. 14.”

The clinic also sold pet bandanas made by Margaret James, raising another $152 for Brandi.
