At a ceremony in Winnipeg, Jul. 19, Dr. Everett More of Virden was inducted into the Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame. More has practiced Veterinary medicine for well over 40 years, and has earned a place at the heart of Manitoba’s agriculture scene, through both his professional practice and tireless volunteer work.
Working with the NAERIC program More’s influence has been felt throughout North American equine sector.
More has given leadership to some 20 organizations over the years, both in Western Canada and locally including Virden Indoor Rodeo & Wild West Daze.
Dr. More now enjoys partial retirement from the veterinary practice; he remains a registered Simmental cattle breeder, and raises bulls and bred heifers for sale.
Also inducted into Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame this year, Neil Van Ryssel from Oakbank.
He is a third generation farmer who has contributed to local, national and international agriculture communities. At the national level, Van Ryssel was a board member of the Dairy Farmers of Canada where he played an integral role in developing the first Canadian Code of Practice of the Care and Handling of Dairy Cattle.
Fifteen years ago, as a founding member of the Western Milk Pool, he was instrumental in negotiating the initial agreement of this interprovincial milk income sharing plan that supports consistent milk supply, processor access to milk and a stable income for dairy farmers. This eventually became an all milk national pool and thus demonstrating Van Ryssel’s visionary involvement in, and for, the dairy industry.
