Tomorrow, June 1, the public will see light armoured vehicles - CFB Shilo - on a road move. They will be headed to Virden.
In a public announcement from the National Defence / Canadian Armed Forces, CFB Shilo advises of their honourary attendance in Virden, June 1:
Members of the 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (1RCHA), based at CFB Shilo, will conduct a brief drive through Virden, MB tomorrow (Tuesday 1 June, 2021) with armoured vehicles. The vehicles will stage at the Virden Legion at 2:45 p.m. and then conduct a short drive through town.
This road move is part of a drive-by celebration of the 100th birthday of a World War 2 veteran, Mr. Les Downing. Mr. Downing served in the Royal Canadian Artillery for over four years. He enlisted in Brandon, Man. in 1942, landed in the “second wave” (one week after D-Day), and served the Guns in France, Holland and Germany.
