A member of the Virden RCMP came under investigation by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) last June. That investigation led to charges that will see Virden RCMP Constable Kyle Trenholm appear in Virden’s Provincial Court.

On June 5, 2019 the IIU released a report saying: on June 4, 2019, RCMP notified the IIU of two allegations over a one-month period of an on-duty officer operating a police vehicle at excessive speed without lawful justification to do so in the area of Virden.

After a thorough and independent investigation into the circumstances of these incidents, IIU Civilian Director Zane Tessler determined it was in the public interest for the IIU to investigate.

The IIC, satisfied there are reasonable grounds to believe criminal offences occurred, has authorized charges - three counts of dangerous driving under section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code, for incidents that took place between May 1 and June 1, 2019.

Constable Trenholm was notified of the charge and issued a summons on Jan. 2, to appear in Virden court on Feb. 7.
