CN derailment east of Miniota

Minor incident stops traffic

A freight train derailment on the CN rail line between Miniota and Hamiota, stopped traffic on Hwy 24, Monday morning at 11:00 a.m.

The incident occurred about 3 kms east of Arrow River where the track obliquely crosses Hwy 24. Miniota Fire Department was called to the scene to act as traffic control until Manitoba Highways arrived.

An environmental team responded to the incident, however the car stayed upright; it did not appear to have leaked. The tanker is marked as carrying ethylene glycol (component of antifreeze).

As of 4:30 p.m. Monday, Manitoba Highway information website advisement continues to report PTH 24 closed near Arrow River between PTH 21 and PTH 83.
