Brock Taylor, Austin Taylor and Rhett Parks of Pipestone Livestock was among the 500+ exhibitors…Seniors Helping Hands and Reston District Library are hosting a friendly scrabble tournament on Wednesday afternoons at 1:30 p.m…Reston School has been accepting plastic bag donations that get delivered to a wonderful lady in Virden who makes mats for the homeless. So far they have donated roughly 600 plastic bags…Robin Combs, through Pipestone-Albert Recreation District is offering Tiny Tumblers on Monday afternoons at the RES Centre.
10 Yrs. – Funding of $84,299 was provided through the RInC program as part of Canada’s Economic Action Plan and $50,000 was contributed from the Province of Manitoba to the Reston Rec Plex…With eight inches of new snow on the ground, the morning of January 23 was -1C and the drive to our starting point of Pierson was a challenge. After unloading the sleds, we had breakfast, courtesy of Pierson Community Club and the Pierson Lions and it was off to the next destination of Sinclair for the 2010 Journey for Sight Ride…Allison Manning paid a visit to Reston Elementary to share her experience of carrying the Olympic Torch with students.

Late in the evening of December 28, 1999 a number of fishing shacks located on Oak Lake were broken into. Items taken in the thefts include numerous ice fishing rods, tackle boxes, propane heater and tank and other ice fishing related equipment…Gwen Arthur of Redvers, SK and Jack and Trudy Wray of Tilston, MB are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their children, Elana and Darin…On January 15, Branden Wanless went to Oak Lake, fishing with his dad and caught his first fish. The perch he caught measured 13 ¼”.
30 Yrs. – Jan. 31, 1990
Marion Mayert with her teammates Margaret Hayward, Jean Bulloch, and Mabel Jones of the Reston Senior Club captured 82 points and won the “Silver Belles” Bonspiel in Brandon on January 17 and 18…Gordon Smeltz was elected president of the Drop-In Centre.
40 Yrs. – Jan. 31, 1980
Formerly “Birnie’s Snack Bar” on Reston’s Main Street, the Dennis County Café held its official grand opening on January 26…More than 300 protested the closing of the senior high school in Elkhorn at a meeting in Elkhorn School.

Chuck Zelmer and his rink of Carol Zelmer, Graham McKenzie and Shirley Bulloch won the A side of the O’Keefe play-off here on Sunday.

Tied for top spot in the club curling at Reston are rinks skipped by Albert Pierrard, Bob McMurchy, Bev Lockhart and Ed Gulas.

Two rinks from Reston have entered the high school bonspiel at Brandon. They are Elaine Nolan, Wilma Everett, Ivan Traill, and J.D. Olenick and Donald Ready, Ronald Everett, Jim Johnston and Alvin Owen.

Hydro rate has been set for the present at 20 cents per kilowatt for lights and eight cents per kilowatt for power. The flat rate is $1.00 per horse power per month…A debate “Resolved that modern machinery has done more harm that good” was held at the Tilston United Church on Wednesday night. Harold Milner and Hugh Vincent took the negative (22) points and G. A. Bremner and Robt. Watt the affirmative.
