Despite short season Oil Caps enjoyed community support

The Oil Caps are already looking forward to next season, 2021-22. Despite the on-again and mostly off-again season with COVID rules that eventually closed the MJHL hockey season early, the club had some loyal participants in their fundraisers.

The Oil Capitals got off to the best start in franchise history going undefeated through nine regular season games before the season was halted on Nov. 10. Rising COVID-19 case numbers in Manitoba led to the shut-down of all sports event.

Head Coach and General Manager Tyson Ramsey expressed disappointment. “This was disheartening to say the least, but we figured we would be back on the ice in the new year. Well, January came and went and when February rolled around and the province still would not allow competitive sports to continue, the league was forced to make the difficult decision to cancel the remainder of the 2020-2021 MJHL season.”

On behalf of his team, Ramsey expressed a debt of gratitude to the team’s business partners, season ticket holders and fans through the difficult 2020-21 season.

On the Oil Caps website Ramsey said, “The support you have given our hockey club has been overwhelming and we feel very grateful to be a part of this amazing community.”

Now, the team is preparing for a new start in September 2021.

Ramsey says, “As an organization we will continue to work hard to make our community proud and push closer to a Manitoba Junior Hockey League Championship.”
