Tanis Chalmers has some unique work displayed in Virden
01
This doily display, hung upon diamond willow, reflects a “trend of re-purposing” by artist Tanis Chalmers. The diamond willow staff was hand carved by her father, the doilies made by her grandmother, the hankies were owned by women on her mother’s side, identified by hand stitched initials on some. Next to this, (right) is art featuring Chalmers’ work with resin.

Pieces of My Peace is a display of unique artwork created by Tanis Chalmers on display during the month of January in Virden’s Arts Mosaic gallery, within the C.P.R. Historic Centre.

Since she was a child Chalmers has been involved in arts programs such as local drama clubs, photography lessons and programs with the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba.

As an adult, she has continued to enjoy art through community drama clubs, photography and now with her own creations.

A variety of mediums are included in her pieces. You will find a craft of diamond willow and doilies – items with a family history.

It was 2019 when Chalmers began using resins in her art, initially with canvas works. Her art has expanded into jewellery, coasters, trays, hair accessories, magnets, key chains and more. Many of Chalmers’ pieces are for sale in the gallery this month.

Chalmers works full-time as the Manager of Economic Development for the RM of Pipestone. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two children.
