Elf the Musical sparkles with energy, fast pace, fun songs

On stage at the Aud until Sunday, Nov. 24

Joey Simms has out-elfed Will Farrell. Simms captures the movie version’s frenetic energy (“SANTA!!!”) but thankfully dials it down a notch and contributes a strong voice and physicality to the musical numbers.

The experienced actor / fitness trainer / barista from Brandon owns the lead role of Buddy in Elf the Musical, which opened Wednesday at the Aud and runs until Sunday.

It’s Simms’ first time performing at the Aud but hopefully not his last. His athleticism (much needed for the role of Buddy) and obvious joy in performing the role make him the perfect casting choice for the lead.

The scene-stealing Buddy is supported by a huge cast from Virden, Brandon and surrounding area, with many familiar names and faces like JaysaLee Davies and George Baker. Running the show are co-directors Michelle Chyzyk (also producer) and Dean Munchinsky, with Brenda Gorlick choreographing.

If you’re looking for a way to get into the holiday spirit, this is it. Now go get elfed!
