Elkhorn-based Sub-Zero service answers local needs

Have tools, will travel
Blair
Blair Nolan travels to service customers in the Elkhorn and Virden area.

Young Elkhorn businessman Blair Nolan, just 28, has a thriving service and repair business, having just started up less than a year ago.  Apparently it’s just what the area needed.

Nolan’s Sub-Zero business provides refrigeration, heating, AC and appliance service.

Trained through Red River Community College, Nolan is accredited as a Journeyman Refrigeration and AC Technician. He also has his Class B Gas Fitters ticket for heating jobs.

Blair and wife Hélène live in Elkhorn. He had been in the workforce, but Nolan felt it was time to get on with his life, maybe start a family. He decided it was time to start his own business.

“I wanted to venture out on my own, and have more responsibility and [flexibility].”

Ever since Westman Fix-It in Virden closed some years ago there has been a void in the appliance repair service in Virden and Elkhorn, which meant people were waiting on a Brandon repairman to come to them, or loading and transporting a bulky appliance to a service depot, or maybe to the landfill.

Now, Nolan’s pickup truck is his office away from home, and he finds himself busier than he expected to be.

He has recently received certification to work on warranty claims for Whirlpool, Electrolux and their sister brands.

“I’ve been quite surprised, starting Sub-Zero, there’s been quite a demand, especially for the appliance side of things.

Repairs can be pricey. However, through his local service, Nolan says, “My labour, I feel, is a little lower than most, and travel-wise,” he says, “I try and help the customers out.”

With the tools of his trade in his truck, Sub-Zero Refrigeration and Heating will travel to install or repair.
