Fire damages Oak Lake Beach house

Oak Lake-Sifton Fire Department responded to a challenging house fire at Oak Lake Beach Monday morning, assisted by Wallace District Fire Department.

The property is a multi family house on Marina Road, facing the marina and visible from the highway entering the resort community.

Smoke was escaping through two small windows at both ends of the roof, appearing to come from the attic or second floor. Fire crews had to use breathing apparatus as they repeatedly entered the home to find and extinguish the source of the smoke.

A cottage owner who lives nearby says the property owners live out of province and often rented out the two units of the building. He said it had been up for sale for a long time. It's not known if anyone was staying in the house at the time of the fire.

The long-time cottager said a previous house on that lot also burned down, and the current dwelling was built in its place about five years ago.
