Windy weather is a roaring lion on March 29 as fires erupt in the afternoon, including a grass fire west of the airport. At shortly after 2 p.m. Virden fire trucks and crew were on the scene dousing the flames, much of it within the dead growth around a slough.
Meanwhile hydro pole fires have cause power outages in Virden. A large number of homes and businesses were left without power for most of the evening as the wind wreaked havoc with transformers. Poles caught fire, which sent WDFD scurrying to two different locations. Hydro has attended, making repairs.
