Fire leaves a Nelson Street resident without a home

On June 3, at 6 p.m. firefighters from the Virden station (WDFD) were called to a housefire on Nelson St. W. Just under two hours later fires in two locations of the home were extinguished.

Fire Chief Brad Yochim said, “Smoke was noticed by a neighbour and the building occupant was outside mowing the grass. The neighbor advised the occupant who called 911.”

There was a fire in the basement which was quickly extinguished.

“In the process of overhauling that fire, we noticed smoke coming from the attic area.” It was above the main floor bathroom and was readily extinguished.

With fire, smoke and water damage the home is not liveable. The cause of both fires is still under investigation.
