Forster new Economic Development Officer for Melita

The Town of Melita has hired Eric Forster as their new Economic Development Officer (EDO).

Forster replaces Iris Vercaigne who resigned in February to take on a role with the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. Based on the Municipal Act, Forster had to resign his role as a Melita councillor in order to accept the EDO position.

He officially began his new career on March 25.

“That was hard because I really enjoyed being a councillor,” said the 34-year-old Forster. “But I feel I can be more effective in this roll.”

After high school, the Class of 2003 Melita School grad went on to attend Assiniboine Community College, taking Business Administration, specializing in Management.

Most of his work experience had been in the oilfield and driving semi. But that changed a few years ago. “Three years ago, I wanted to take on a challenge and run for councillor in a by-election that came up,” said the father of two boys.

He was subsequently re-elected in the 2018 election, with Economic Development being one of his portfolios as councillor.

And he’s passionate about the work ahead. “I’m excited to learn new things and to meet new people,” said Forster. “I enjoy looking forward to the challenges that will come up, and I’m excited for the evolution that will arise. What is the best thing today may not be the best thing tomorrow. I’m excited for the partnerships that will be created to excel our corner of the province. Right now the future is unknown, and we will have to be working together to move ahead.”
