Full house for Remembrance Service at the Aud

Crowds undaunted by frigid weather
rem day
CFB Shilo shared a contingent of soldiers who came to Virden for the Remembrance Day parade and service.

Neither frigid temperatures nor a nasty north wind could keep people at home Monday morning. Once again, Virden's Aud Theatre was packed, floor to balcony, for the Remembrance Day service.

A large contingent of soldiers from CFB Shilo marched in the parade from the Legion gathering point to the Theatre, along with veterans, RCMP and Brandon Police officers, first responders, Lions Club members, flag bearers, Scouts and Guides, and others who braved the short walk against a blistering windchill of -25.

Legion Branch No. 8 Padre Matt Koovisk and Assistant Padre Tim Challen officiated and introduced guest speaker Rev. Fr. Michael Bruce, a chaplain and church rector who travelled from Regina to participate in the day's events.

After his address and the wreath laying, voices joined in the singing of What Shall We Pray.

"What shall we pray for those who fear

war in some guise may reappear

looking attractive and sincere?

God give them peace."

The service wound up with an invitation to lunch back at the Legion Hall.
