A new committee will be called to solidify plans and work out the details

In October, Virden will say, Happy Birthday Manitoba with a weekend of festivities.

Funding has been announced to help Virden commemorate Manitoba’s 150th birthday.

There are plans to celebrate Virden’s footprint in the history of Manitoba, with Virden’s theme - Proud Heritage, Strong Future.

Liza Park, Economic Development Manager jumped into action as soon as a funding of $25,000 was announced just over a week ago. It wasn’t the $70,000 – the maximum possible – but Park is nonetheless looking forward to planning a fall celebration in Virden.

“I’m very, very happy with that. Now, we have to go back to the drawing board and say, what can we do with that, where does it fit best?”

The cultural celebration will run between Oct 16-18 and feature history, art, stories, entertainment, food and fun.

Park says she will put together a committee to iron out the details, using some of the ideas that were included in the grant application.
