FunSkate at TOGP

The Virden FunSkate is an annual event that gives figure skaters a chance to get experience performing in front of judges and an audience, without the usual pressures of competition.

At last Friday and Saturday’s event at TOGP, girls and boys travelled from dozens of communities across Manitoba and Saskatchewan to participate. In the stands, parents and friends watched proudly and cheered them on.

This FunSkate featured levels 1-6 of young Canskaters, Star 2, 3, 4 and 5s, Improv, Interpretive, Elements, Synchro, and Pairs.

A special treat was the exhibition skate on Saturday by pairs Shallen Bear / Marty Haubrich and Megan Dryden / Wyatt James, all skating out of Virden.

The Bear / Haubrich novice pairs team used the opportunity to showcase the long program they’ll be using in competition next week at the 2019 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships in New Brunswick where the best skaters in the country will compete.
