After being rained out on Friday, the Virden U12 girls softball team went undefeated in its three games at ‘B’ provincials in Winnipeg to finish first in its pool. In the playoff round, the squad made it all of the way to the semifinals. “In the semis, we played a very good game, but a few bounces didn’t go our way late in the game and we lost by one run, and that sent us to the bronze medal game, which we lost,” coach Travis Paton said. “This group of girls played hard and came in fourth in the province.’

At its provincials, the Virden U16 girls softball squad went 2-2 in the round robin. The team was tied for a playoff round berth but was eliminated by the tie-break rule. “I thought the girls did a real good job this weekend,” coach Tyson Ramsey said. “There were some real good teams there and we held our own. I am proud of the girls and the improvements they showed over the course of a short season with limited practice time. They were a great bunch of girls to work with and I really enjoyed getting to know each one of them.”
