Tea Party at 3 for 20

Virden coffee shop becomes tea house for an afternoon

Sugar tea served in bone china cups.

Scones with clotted cream and jam.

Finger sandwiches, no crusts please!

And oh the hats!

About 20 people from Virden and area got dressed up for afternoon tea Saturday, served in Victorian style at the Gopher Creek Coffee Company. It was a fundraiser for the Pioneer Home Museum and the first of its kind in Virden.

Museum manager Deanne Doucette was banking on the popularity of English tea to fill the place, and it did. Among all the white gloves, big hats, and long dresses there were even a couple of gents who came to escort their ladies.

After sipping and nibbling, some parlour games of the era were played. Then everyone returned to drab old 2019 hoping for another tea someday soon.
